Landscaping / upgrade.

Poem -“Our new Garden

They’ve started on our garden, doing landscaping you know,

We’ve now got two raised beds, all ready for us to grow

some runner beans, tomatoes & perhaps some peppers too.

Bur we’ll keep some room for shrubs& flowers of a different hue.

Then there were nice new fences looking very smart & neat

And charging points form scooters, now this place is hard to beat!

The garden shed will be replaced, the seats & tables too, & when

new plants & flowers are in I think a party’s due? Don’t you?.

“Well our craft class is over, & we’re feeling rather low

We finished making all our felt, & made some lovely things to show

now Lou can have a holiday. & maybe we will too,

ready to start again next term, with something new to do”

Had a wonderful trip to Empire room Westcliff on sea. Enjoyed a lovely  2 course roast beef lunch with apple pie & ice cream followed by Fabulous Fifties musical show. Thank you to Zapp our lovely coach driver. A good time was had by all.

landscaping UPGRADE. Work is due to start soon with landscaping getting a much awaited face lift. We are told around the 2nd week in August.

Birthday celebrations. Happy 80th birthday wishes to William & Ted on reaching this milestone. We wish them continued good health.

We got Joint runner up prize- very happy.

Upgrade. We still have our scaffolding & Castle House looks  like a scene from  star wars with pipe work & white suits. Windows are completed & Roof is currently being sprayed. Moyra has written a poem about our jolly scaffolders who seem to be here forever.

Our day room looks lovely thanks to Covent Garden flower market who give us such beautiful flowers. Much appreciated.

Digital news. Good news on this. We are now in a position to pay for expert support with our website & webcam- thanks to Erosh & Clearview. We have found a wonderful local lady Penny who is happy to  support us on a weekly basis.  Classes going very well & with lots of enthusiasm.

Works update.

Now we are surrounded by scaffolding  .Its all ready for our new windows& we now have a start date 18th May -5th June. In the meantime we are told that they will get on with building fabric -guttering, fans & any roof work that is needed. Scaffolding is alarmed & it makes life a little darker but hopefully the sunshine is on its way. Unfortunately we can’t plant in the garden with all the work going on but the flowers in the pots are beginning to look lovely.

Digital Group. The Dream has come true.

We have been nominated by EROSH judges panel as one of four winners & received a £1000 cash donated by Clearview. The award ceremony was held at the prestigious Mercers Hall in the heart of the city of London . The prizes were presented by Dame Esther Rantzen who serenaded us with the words !I can see clearly now…!  Mark Hobart from Clearview sponsored & presented our cheque. He said he  was blown away by our enthusiasm  for our website.  To be nominated was wonderful but to be a winner is fantastic. This has given us a huge boost & vote of confidence. We feel so valued &  it has all been worthwhile. We can now fund our wi-fi, printer toner , ink, paper etc without worrying about where the funding will come from. We can also get professional help with maintaining site & refresher basics training for all who need it.

A huge Thank you  to everyone who has helped & supported us along the way. Our aim is to set example to other schemes & to reach out & inspire other to do something similar.

Awards. Castle House Digital group came in the top 5 out of 350 entries in TPAS ( Tenant participation awards)on 6th February at Hilton Wembley. A big “Thank you” to Lambeth Living for nomination .Well done everyone. We got marvelous news yesterday. We have been shortlisted for another award -EROSH-Championing quality housing  support for our ageing community-& we are one of 8 finalists.  Wouldn’t it be great to be a winner? This award will give the winner £1000. We have plenty of ideas on how to spend this if successful. We need to finance our wi-fi currently on loan from  3 mobile , & on going essentials such as paper, ink. The wi-fi has been essential , taking it to hospital with laptop to give sick residents  a boost & used in individual flats to communicate with family. We also need continued paid support maybe monthly with our website & basics. It would be great to be a winner -we can dream can’t we? Being a finalist is fantastic, & we really appreciate our nomination.

I  was interviewed by a local journalist Daniel Ruiz Tizon a local journalist  for his Xmas podcast. This was similar to advent calendar -picture & thought behind each door for 24 days. I spoke about how older people see the festive period & cope with it. I was excited to hear myself on his podcast & it felt great to be able to send the link to my family especially my grandchildren who were excite too.–Moyra

New craft class  started on 22th January in Day room 1pm -3pm, thanks to  Morley College. We made & decorated heart shaped pin cushions , now we have started papier mache boxes which will be used as treasure boxes. Pictures will follow when finished

Scheme upgrade started  on 19th January .  New kitchens currently being fitted & will be followed with new bathrooms, & long awaited windows .All going well & everyone coping with disruption. We are surviving the upheaval.

The Fit & Connected group has been cycling regularly through the  Summer with the wonderful Wheels  for Wellbeing. We plan to continue in the Spring.

Warm & Well.

Thanks to Age UK Warm & well in winter for grant .Nutrition sessions are going well ,  one educating us on “sugar” . Quite frightening to learn about the level of hidden sugar content in food items & the one on fat was even more scary. We had a great session on Circle Dancing which is a European wide dance. Very health beneficial, great exercise & a lot of fun. More sessions in April.

Party Time.

We had a wonderful afternoon celebrating Mary’s 80th birthday.

Friends & family  gathered to make it a special day. Mary  is not a resident but is

a local friend to many.
